'Doctor Who' announces Jodie Whittaker will be first female Time Lord

For the first time, a woman will play BBC time traveler Doctor Who

Thirteenth time the charm: Doctor Who gets its first female time lord

JODIE WHITTAKER will be the 13th incarnation of Doctor Who, the BBC revealed in a short trailer today, becoming the first woman to play the Time Lord in its 54-year existence.

She replaces Peter Capaldi, who announced in January he would be leaving the series after four years.

She is expected to make her debut during the Christmas special. Her audition for the Doctor simply blew us all away.

With regard to Doctor Who's gender, Whitakker had this to say: "I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender". He's cast someone he's worked with on Broadchurch, with Jodie Whittaker becoming the latest Doctor.

"I always knew I wanted the 13th Doctor to be a woman and we're thrilled to have secured our number one choice", Chibnell told the BBC.

Whittaker happens to be the first female actor to play Doctor Who.

Une position qui peut lui permettre, en théorie, de bénéficier d'un tableau favorable. Petra Kvitova a été classée tête de série n°11.

"Anyone who has seen Jodie Whittaker's work will know that she is a wonderful actress of great individuality and charm", the 59-year-old actor said.

Pearl Mackie, who plays companion Bill Potts, expressed excitement in the casting decision with an Instagram post.

According to the new executive producer and head writer, Chris Chibnall, "After months of lists, conversations, auditions, recalls, and a lot of secret-keeping, we're excited to welcome Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor". But this regeneration's a bit different.

Whittaker will premiere as the Doctor this Christmas.

For the uninitiated, the BBC series that was first aired in 1963, is about an extraterrestrial being from a planet called Gallifrey.

What's funny is that previous rumors have suggested that BBC was planning on rebooting Doctor Who back to its original David Tennant formula with a young, charming Doctor accompanied by a female companion.
