Houston Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee has called for the House Judiciary Committee to launch an impeachment inquiry, but has stopped short so far of calling for impeachment. Res. 438) filed by Congressman Brad Sherman and co-sponsored by Congressman Al Green (D-TX).

The impeachment article introduced Wednesday accuses Trump of obstructing justice during the federal investigation of Russia's alleged interference in the 2016 election.

"I believe his conversations with, and subsequent firing of, FBI Director James Comey constitute Obstruction of Justice", he said.

"Recent disclosures by Donald Trump Jr. indicate that Trump's campaign was eager to receive assistance from Russia", Sherman said.

Sherman began circulating a draft of the article in June.

In an interview on Wednesday evening, the conservative anchor argued that Sherman's impeachment push was frivolous, while the California Democrat said that, if nothing else, attempting to impeach Trump could bring about "competence" in the White House.

Trump Jr. responded, "If it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer".

This news comes during a week that's already been quite dramatic for the Trump administration in relation to the Russia investigation. Back in May, Politico detailed just how cautious Democratic leaders have been about this subject, even as a few members continue to raise it.

Amid mounting allegations of Russian involvement with the Trump campaign, the Los Angeles-area politician described the nation's position as "dangerous" and said in a statement: "The evidence we have is sufficient to move forward now".
